Green County Barn

History
This farmstead barn at the Pleasant View Complex once housed the county-owned dairy herd. The barn has a Dutch Gambrel roof. Pleasant View was the original "county farm" and for many years served as the home to the indigent, the elderly, and the mentally handicapped. Originally more than 300 acres, it was virtually a self-sustaining farm complete with a dairy herd, chickens, vegetable gardens, and crop land, orchards. Residents worked in the bakery, the laundry, the kitchen, and the barn. They canned vegetables, and made their own butter.

The first "barn raising" was at the Green County barn!
