Afternoon - Option 2 - Visit the barns on your own from noon - 5 pm, maps available at SCNA and the barn locations, or online at www.green.uwex.edu.
Featured Green County Barns include the Lauren Meinert Barn at N3793 Cty. M, west of Monroe, and the Hefty-Blum Barn at W6303 Hefty Rd., northwest of Monticello. Both Cantilevered Forebay Bank Barns. The Cantilevered Forebay Bank style of architecture was developed by the Swiss more than 450 years ago. It represents a unique approach to farming - combining grain production and animal husbandry under one roof. The relationship of the style of the barn to the topography makes it an excellent example of how early settlers adapted to a hill-slope environment.
Advance registration is required for the bus tour with admission of $10 per person. Registration is not necessary for the morning events or to visit the two featured locations on your own, but is necessary for the bus tour.
Please call Green County UWEX at 608.328.9440 for more information about registering for the bus tour. A map showing the two locations is available online at www.green.uwex.edu. http://www.green.uwex.edu
